Here's some places that you might wanna visit in Melbourne:
If you are here between 21st Sep and 20th Oct, be sure to catch the Royal Melbourne Show! It's a carnival/funfair, more details at: www.royalshow.com.au/
Phillip Island is worth going as well. Catch the Little Penguins coming back to the shore in the evening.
Queen Victoria Market in the city is a giant pasar malam :D
Shopping - Smith street (10 mins from the city by tram) is an entire street of factory outlets; Chapel street is a super long stretch of shops selling clothes, shoes, sportswear, electronics and has lots of cafes and restaurants as well; Bourke street is right in the city, one street away from Chinatown; Chadstone shopping centre - largest mall in the southern hemisphere, lots of designer brands!
Great Ocean Road - see the 8 or so remaining Apostles and some ancient shipwreck sites via the scenic road.
Australian Open Tour at Rod Laver Arena is a guided tour that brings you behind the scenes of the Australian Open, including Centre Court and the players' locker room.
Crown Entertainment Complex comprises a casino, Village cinemas and many boutiques. The flaming towers outside the complex puts on an hourly show that starts from 7pm each evening.
More places to dine, wine, shop and see at http://www4.visitvictoria.com/
As for food, besides Mekong, Spicy Fish Restaurant is OMGWTFBBQ nice! It's a "Traditional Szechuan & Shanghai Style Chinese Food". It's around Chinatown.
Address: Shop 23, Target Centre 236 Bourke Street Melbourne VIC 3000
Tel: (03)96391885
You should call for reservation. It gets pretty packed all day.

WE'LL BE GOING IN NOV!!! :D:D:D
Phillip Island i think nothing much. Go there unless you wanna see penguin wear jackets or something. HAHA.
OMG i was caught in a "storm" the last time i went Great Ocean Road. Join a tour for it. It's a must Go!
Queen Victoria Market is a must go also!!!
If you're into factory outlets stuff, then Smith Street is a good choice. Kinda like DFO. I prefer DFO tho. -->http://www.dfo.com.au/
I go to Chadstone like almost every day =_= It's like Taka or Suntec. Bring lotsa cash!
Crown is my personal favourite. :)
